Why I Love YA

The super amazing Beth Revis is having a giveaway for a TON of signed YA books. As one of the entries we're suppose to post about why we love the YA genre, so here is what I have to say.

When I was a teen, I actually skipped the YA genre completely. I went from Goosebumps and Fear Street straight to adult Chick Lit when I started high school. I felt like I had to read more mature books to appear more mature, since I was starting high school at 12 and was often picked on for being young. I love Chick Lit, so I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. It wasn't until I was 19 and saw Twilight that I picked up a YA book. I loved the Twilight series despite it's obvious flaws! But it wasn't until I joined Goodreads a few years later that I really got into the YA genre.

Even though I'm 23, I identify better with the teenage protagonists. I haven't experienced any of the "adult problems" that sometimes come up in adult books, but I can most definitely relate to high school drama, first boyfriends, balancing friends and school, etc. YA deals with so many problems I can remember facing as a teen, although my first boyfriend was most definitely not a hott supernatural entity!

So thank you to all of the amazing YA authors out there! And Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. You make a really good point. I'm practically friggin middle-aged, and I still identify better with young characters. I don't feel like I have adult problems, either, despite the fact I'm married and a mama! We can all identify with being teenagers because we all had to go through it. It's fun to relive it.. from a safe distance!

Thanks for taking time to read my post and leave a comment; I really appreciate it! :)
