[18+ Review] Seduced in the Dark (The Dark Duet, #2) by C.J. Roberts

Title: Seduced in the Dark
Series: The Dark Duet, #2
Author: C.J. Roberts
Pages: 416 (Kindle edition)
Publisher: Neurotica Books
Release Date: August 30, 2012

What is the price of redemption?

Rescued from sexual slavery by a mysterious Pakistani officer, Caleb carries the weight of a debt that must be paid in blood.

The road has been long and fraught with uncertainty, but for Caleb and Livvie, it’s all coming to an end.

Can he surrender the woman he loves for the sake of vengeance?

Or will he make the ultimate sacrifice?

Seduced in the Dark doesn't pick up right after the events of Captive, which threw me off a bit. It actually starts sometime after Livvie and Caleb's time together, and we get to see the aftermath of her captivity. She also is telling the story to a doctor and an agent. Caleb's chapters are set in the time when he still has Livvie, and are still in third person, and it still annoyed me. Caleb's chapters also delve into his horrible past, so we can better understand the man he has become.

This part reads more like a crime drama than a dark erotica like the first part. There's still plenty of sex scenes, some more disturbing than others, but the focus seems to be on the crime. There's even the added POV of Agent Reed who is working with Livvie to try to solve this case. I didn't particularly care for his chapters at first, but once the pieces of evidence started coming together, woah!

I enjoyed this part much more than the first. It was super intense, and I found myself actually holding my breath near the end. I just could not figure out how it was going to end, or if it was going to be a happy ending. I honestly wasn't even expecting one, but a girl can hope! Although it's probably sick of me to wish for happy ending for a girl and her kidnapper. But that's the thing about these kind of books, they mess with your head, and cause you feel things you never thought you would.

Favorite Quotes

I hiss. Actually, fucking hiss. We're both shocked by my reaction. I never know I could be so feral. I rather like it. I feel capable of anything. (4%)

He used to talk to me at night. It was almost like the dark gave us permission to be ourselves, to put aside the fact that he was my kidnapper, and the man responsible for all the terrible things that happened to me during the day. (35%)

You can't fight who you're attracted to. Sometimes, fate gets it right, and then makes you pay for it. (57%)
